Klaviyo went headless at K:BOS 2026. Here is what it changes for your email revenue

The read. At K:BOS on 9 September, Klaviyo made more than 260 of its tools callable from Claude, ChatGPT or any AI system, added plain-English questions that become SQL (database queries) over your customer data, and rebuilt personalisation on specialised models with real customer holdouts. The work of segmenting, reporting and building flows is about to be done by agents. What that changes for you: the advantage moves to clean data and well-built flows, and measurement finally gets honest. Below, what was announced, what it means, and the seven flows to fix before Q4.

What Klaviyo announced

  • Klaviyo Headless. Direct access to Klaviyo capabilities from third-party AI systems: "more than 260+ Klaviyo MCP tools and capabilities are callable directly from Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI system your team already uses." MCP is the Model Context Protocol, the standard AI systems use to call tools. Live now.
  • SQL in the Klaviyo Data Platform. Ask a question in plain language and Klaviyo writes the query, over profiles, events, segments, lists, campaigns and catalogues. In preview inside Composer, with Claude and ChatGPT support to follow.
  • Next-generation personalisation. Specialised predictive models for audience, content, send time and channel, replacing one general model, with built-in A/B tests against real customer holdouts. In preview.
  • A proactive Composer. "Composer used to be something you prompted. Now it brings finished work to you," with scheduled recurring tasks and custom skills.
  • Customer Agent in 100+ languages. Localised out of the box, with 1.3 million customer messages handled so far and a voice channel to come.

What it means for a brand

The clicking is being automated. Building a segment, pulling a report, drafting a flow: an agent can now do each of these inside your account, from the tools your team already uses. Speed goes up. So does the number of things that can go wrong quietly.

Measurement gets honest. Holdouts are the important word in the personalisation announcement. A holdout is a group of customers who do not receive the message, so you can see what the message actually added. Most email revenue figures we see in audits are attributed, not incremental. Klaviyo is now building the honest version into the product.

Data quality becomes the advantage. When everyone has the same agent, the brand with clean profiles, complete event data and a real replenishment interval wins. An agent working on a messy account produces messy segments faster.

One caution. None of this fixes a flow that was never built or a list that was never cleaned. It scales whatever you already have.

The seven flows, in build order

Every e-commerce account needs these seven, and the order matters because each one feeds the next.

  1. Welcome. Trigger: sign-up. Job: sell without a discount, then use one if you must. Three to five emails over ten days.
  2. Abandoned checkout. Trigger: checkout started, no order. Job: remove the reason (shipping, sizing, doubt), not just remind.
  3. Browse abandonment. Trigger: product viewed, no cart. Job: one email, the product, the proof.
  4. Post-purchase. Trigger: order placed. Job: confirm, educate, set up the next purchase.
  5. Replenishment. Trigger: days since order, set by product. Job: arrive the week they run out.
  6. Win-back. Trigger: 90, 180 and 365 days without an order. Job: a reason to return, then a last message.
  7. VIP. Trigger: spend or frequency threshold. Job: early access and recognition; this segment is also your Meta exclusion and your lookalike seed.

Invincible Digital retention playbook, 2026. Hospitality, fitness and professional beauty equivalents are in the article.

For hospitality, the equivalents are birthday and anniversary, lapsed guest, event announcement and private dining upsell, driven by the booking system. For fitness, trial-to-member, class reminder, cancellation save and referral. For professional beauty, education sequences for salon customers and replenishment timed to the product.

Five things to do before Q4

  1. Audit deliverability now. Check sender authentication, complaint rate and the size of the unengaged segment. Fix it before the November volume, not during it.
  2. Sync segments to Meta. Buyers and VIPs as prospecting exclusions; VIPs as the lookalike seed. Paying Q4 prices to reach existing customers is the most common waste we find.
  3. Set a holdout on your biggest flow. Five to ten percent, held for the quarter, so January's revenue claim is real.
  4. Check SMS consent. UK and EU rules require explicit consent and a working opt-out; Q4 is not the moment to discover a compliance gap.
  5. Ask better questions. With plain-English SQL in preview, write down the five questions you always wanted answered (which first product predicts a second order; where the replenishment interval actually sits) and be ready to ask them.

What we would switch on first

Klaviyo Headless for reporting, because it removes the export-and-spreadsheet step from client reporting straight away. The personalisation preview on one high-volume flow, with the holdout on. Customer Agent for brands selling in more than one language, which for us means most of the Spanish and UK clients we serve.

Frequently asked questions

Is Klaviyo Headless available now? Yes, Klaviyo says it is live. SQL support and the new personalisation models are in preview, and Customer Agent's voice channel is still to come.

Will an AI agent replace the email team? It replaces the clicking. Deciding what a welcome series should say, which products deserve a replenishment flow and when a discount is a mistake still needs someone who knows the brand and the customer.

What is a holdout, and why does it matter? A group of customers deliberately excluded from a message so you can compare their behaviour with those who received it. It is the difference between revenue an email was near and revenue an email caused.
